The Top 10 Most Famous Dogs (Part 5) From Santa’s Little Helper to Wishbone

Posted under: Chihuahua Articles

I’ve been compiling a list of famous dogs for my Pet Numerology website for some time now.  I know which my favorites are, but I wondered which are the most famous overall.  There are so many great famous dogs that I’m doing this in five groups, and then I’ll do a final round with the top dogs from those groups.

The most famous dogs (based on online chatter) with names starting with the letters S to Z are:

10. Old Yeller from classic “Old Yeller” books and movies

9. Toto the Cairn Terrier from the “Wizard of Oz” movie and books

8. Wishbone the Jack Russell Terrier from the PBS TV series “Wishbone”

7. Tramp from the Disney animated movie “Lady and the Tramp”

6. Underdog from the classic “Underdog” cartoons

5. Tinkerbell who is Paris Hilton’s Chihuahua

4. Snoopy the Beagle from the “Peanuts” comic strip

3. Snowy the White Wire Fox Terrier in “Adventures of Tintin” comic books

2. Santa’s Little Helper the Greyhound from animated TV series “Ths Simpsons”

. . . and the most famous dog on this list is. . .

1. Scooby Doo from the “Scooby-Doo” cartoons and movies

Dogs not ranking in the top 10 were Sadie who is Oprah Winfrey’s cocker spaniel, Sandy from “Little Orphan Annie” cartoons and the play, Satchel from the comic strip “Get Fuzzy”, Solomon was is Oprah Winfrey’s cocker spaniel, Sophie was is Oprah Winfrey’s cocker spaniel, Sparky from the animated tv series “South Park”, Spike who is Snoopy’s brother in the comic strip “Peanuts”, Splash who was US Senator Ted Kennedy’s Portuguese Water Dog, Spuds MacKenzie the Bull Terrier from Budweiser advertisements in the 1980s, Strelka how was a Soviet Space dog, Sumo the Maltese Bichon terrier who belonged to Former French President Jacques Chirac, Tiger from the 1970s TV series “The Brady Bunch”, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (a puppet) from Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Winnie who is “Girl Next Door” Bridget Marquardt’s Pekingese, Wellard the Belgian Tervuren from the BBC series EastEnders, Woofie from the “Mutts” comic strip, Zero the ghost dog from the movie “Nightmare Before Christmas”, and Zuul the dog demons from the movie “Ghostbusters”.

So a nice mix of dogs in this top ten from movies (Tramp, Toto, Old Yeller), television (Scooby Doo, Santa’s Little Helper, Underdog, Wishbone), comics (Snowy, Snoopy), and real life (Tinkerbell). I was fairly surprised by the order of the top five.

I was sure that Snoopy would be in the number one spot.  Instead Scooby Doo, Santas Little Helper, and Snowy were all above Snoopy.

I was also surprised to see Tinkerbell in the top 10, but I guess that just proves you should never doubt Paris Hilton’s ability to generate publicity. Not surprisingly, nine of the top ten dogs are characters and not real life dogs, with only Tinkerbell being an actual living dog.  It’s a shame that those brave Soviet Space dog pioneers aren’t better know, so I’ll mention Strelka one more time.

I compiled this list by searching for the dog names listed on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online.

Most Popular Small Dog Breeds

Posted under: Chihuahua Articles

Small dogs are a growing fad in today’s society, and with so many different breeds its hard to keep track of all of them. In this article I will discuss some of the most popular small dog breeds.

With the growing population and the increase of metropolitan living, small dogs have became a popular choice for many people looking for a companion in their home or apartment. They are great because they can comfortably live inside small living areas, they don’t create alot of waste, and they make loving pet companions with unique personalities. However, all small dog breeds have different temperaments and characteristics, and if you decide you want to own one it is important to know them. Here are some of the most popular small dog breeds:

* Chihuahua – The Chihuahua has become almost famous, with popular celebrities such as Paris Hilton carrying their pet Chihuahua everywhere they go. Chihuahuas are the smallest dog breed in the world, but their temperament doesn’t show it. Chihuahuas like to bark at larger animals, and can even be aggressive to them. Keeping them away from larger dogs is a must for every Chihuahua owner. You don’t want your Chihuahua to pick a fight with the neighbors Great Dane. They are also somewhat stubborn when it comes to training. Chihuahuas are smart, but are known for being difficult to train.

* Yorkie – The Yorkie is actually the second most popular dog breed in America. They are a loyal, energetic, loving, and highly intelligent dog. Yorkies are known for their long, flowing hair which leads to many dog competition awards. They are also notorious for their intelligence level. Yorkies can usually learn commands much faster than the majority of other dog breeds. Some tricks you can teach your Yorkie are laying down, standing up, go fetch (of course), hand-shake, sit and whatever else your mind can imagine.

* Poodle – Often used in dog shows, the Poodle is probably the breed with the most elegance. While their coat may require regular, professional grooming to keep their high-class look, they do not shed as much as many other dog breeds. The Poodle, much like the Yorkie, is a very intelligent dog often used in circuses around the globe.

* Pug – Known for their wrinkly face, the Pug is another popular small dog breed. They are very social dogs and adapt well with other people and animals. Pugs are energetic and loving, but often difficult to potty-train.

There are many other small dog breeds, but these are some of the most popular. If you are thinking about owning one, look into all the other options, not just the most popular. You may find one you like more.

Guide To The Most Popular Dog Breeds

Posted under: Chihuahua Articles

Are you shopping for a new dog? If so, you will be able to choose from over one hundred different breeds. Each breed of dog is unique in their own way. Before you make a purchase you should look into what each breed has to offer, as well as what other people think about them. For many people, choosing from the most popular dog breeds is a good start. After all, if so many people are interested in these dogs they have to be doing some right.

Here are a few of the most popular dog breeds:

1. The Labrador retriever is a beautiful and popular dog breed. They weigh between 50 and 80 pounds, and stand from 21 to 24 and a half inches. They love the water, and are very intelligent. My sister’s black labrador would chew the hose if the didn’t get his daily play with it! Labradors love swimming, and have webbed feet which helps him swim well. They have a lovely, gentle nature, and adore humans. They don’t make great guard dogs, as they accept strangers easily. But they are excellent with children. They do have a lot of energy, so will need exercise and somewhere to run around. But their coat is quite low maintenance, and they are easy to train.

2. As far as the most popular dog breeds for families, the Golden retriever is always near the top of the list. This breed is very similar to the Labrador retriever except it has a longer coat. They weigh between 55 and 80 pounds, and stand 22 to 24 and a half inches high. Golden retrievers are very intelligent, and have a great love of humans. They are very playful and eager to please, and even love all the attention that children give a pet! They are good around strangers, so they don’t make good guard dogs, but this can be good for a family with children bringing friends over. Golden retrievers do need obedience training, as their need for attention, and desire to play all the time could be irritating to owners wanting some time of their own. They also need at least an hour of exercise a day.

3. If you are shopping for a smaller dog, look into buying a Chihuahua. This is one of the most popular dog breeds year in and year out, and is nice for people who do not want a big dog running through their home at all times. Chihuahua’s weight from 2 to 6 pounds, and are very loyal, intelligent and perceptive. Despite their size, they don’t think of themselves as small dogs! They are very protective of the house, and make great miniature guard dogs.

4. The German shepherd is a popular large dog breed for people looking for a watch or guard dog, or a very loyal companion. They weight between 60 and 110 pounds, and are 22 to 26 inches high. They do need daily brushing, however. German shephards are extremely protective of their house and territory, and this extends to his human family, with which he becomes strongly bonded to. They are quite sensitive dogs in that they are very aware of their owner’s moods, and are very intelligent. The only potential problems are that they can be suspicious of strangers – and this includes your child’s friends. As a result, they need training and socialization, from puppyhood.

5. Beagles are great hunting dogs and are always popular among dog lovers for their gentle nature and even temperament. They were originally used as hunting dogs, and so have an amazing sense of smell – which, in the domestic environment can translate into a penchant for sniffing out underwear in the laundry! Beagles are extremely loyal and friendly, but they need training, though they can be difficult to train due to their curiosity. They are quite strong willed, especially when they catch a scent they are curious about. But they are very playful dogs, and make great family pets. They are fine with toddlers, and as long as they have been socialized the right way, will get along in multi-dog households.

The most popular dog breeds are not necessarily the best, they are just the ones that are bought the most by the general public. If you are shopping for a new dog, looking at the most popular breeds is probably a great place to start, but be sure to take into account your needs. Do you want a dog that will fit into an apartment? Or be good around children – especially small children? How much time do you have to exercise your dog? These questions will help determine whether a breed is appropriate for your lifestyle and situation.

Which dog breeds are most likely to bite-Find Out Today

Posted under: Chihuahua Articles

So you are on the lookout for the perfect pet dog for your family? You definitely want a breed that can be active when you’re up to playing and can be docile if you need peace and quiet. It would also be great if it can take care of itself and will not need looking after. Finally, you want a breed that doesn’t bite.

If you have been asking around which dog breeds are most likely to bite, you are asking the wrong question. All dogs bite. No matter how well they have been trained, there is always the likelihood that they will be compelled or be pushed into aggressiveness and bite. After all, it is just the way dogs are. There are, however, breeds that have a higher tendency to bite than the rest of the breeds. A recent survey of dog owners identified the following as some of the dog breeds that are most likely to bite:

The Dachshund

This cute pet that looks more like a baloney than a dog have been found to have a high propensity to nip at their owners and strangers. Dachshunds are hunting dogs. They have by nature very sharp instincts towards their prey. As such, they may exhibit aggressiveness at the sight of tots running around, making noise, and react to the stimulus by biting.

The Chihuahua

Like the dachshund, Chihuahuas are very cute toy dogs. But many owners complain about pet Chihuahuas who have the habit of nipping at strangers and owners alike. This breed are typically born with a set of characteristics—and biting is one of them. But this behavior can be addressed by proper training.

The Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Terriers are a very aggressive breed of dogs. In fact, there have been many reported cases of aggression towards other breeds and other dogs of the same breed. In general, puppies learn about their environment by biting at things and people. You need to take control of this habit by correcting them early on. Otherwise, they will think that biting is an accepted behavior and keep it as adults.

The Australian Cattle Dog

An Australian Cattle Dog that doesn’t bite is rare, especially because they were bred to work as herding dogs, which means they bite for a living. They were bred to use nipping and biting to make the stock toe the line. It is up to you to train them and unlearn this bad habit.

The American Cocker Spaniel

The American Cocker Spaniel is a favorite family pet. By nature, they have a rather bad temperament, compare to your average canine friend. This is rooted in the indiscriminate breeding of American Cocker Spaniels beginning in the 1940s, when the breed became popular. The worst cases are those that are suffering from genetic seizure conditions also called the rage syndrome. This condition is characterized by a sudden urge to bark violently and bite what is on sight.

The Top 20 Absolutely Most Famous Dogs

Posted under: Chihuahua Articles

I’ve been compiling a list of famous dogs for my pet numerology website for some time now.  I know which my favorites are, but I wondered which are the most famous overall.  There were so many great famous dogs that I did five alphabetical gourps, with a final round of the top most famous dogs.  This is that final round, and I’ll reveal which are the most famous of these terrific dogs.

The top twenty most famous of all dogs (based on online chatter) are:

20. Goofy – from the classic Walt Disney cartoons

19. Chloe – a Chihuahua who is a lead character in the movie “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”

18. Mr. Peabody – who appeared in “Peabody’s Improbable History” cartoons with his boy Sherman in the 1960s

17. Benji – who starred of a series of “Benji” movies

16. Buddy – a Labrador Retriever who belonged to US President Bill Clinton

15. Gromit – from the “Wallace and Gromit” animated short films

14. Tinkerbell – a Chihuahua belonging to socialite Paris Hilton

13. Dogbert – from the “Dilbert” comic strip

12. Snowy – the White Wire Fox Terrier traveled with Tintin in the “Adventures of Tintin” comic books

11. Barney – a Scottish Terrier belonging to US President George W. Bush

10. Lassie – the Collie is a character seen in movies since the 1930s

9. Santa’s Little Helper – the Simpson’s family dog on the animated TV series “The Simpsons”

8. Bo – the Portuguese Water Dog belonging to US President Barack Obama and the First Family

7. Snoopy – the Beagle is a character in the “Peanuts” comic strip

6. Bolt – the white German Shepherd who is the title character of the animated movie “Bolt”

5. Eddie – the Jack Russell Terrier from the TV series “Frasier”

4. Odie – from the “Garfield” comic strip

3. Dug – the talking dog from the Pixar Animated movie “Up”

2. Scooby Doo – from the “Scooby-Doo” cartoons and movies

. . . and the most famous dog is. . .

1. Marley – the Labrador Retriever who is the title character in the book and movie “Marley and Me”

So a nice mix of breeds in the top twenty with two Yellow Labs (Marley and Buddy), two Chihuahuas (Tinkerbell and Chloe), a Portuegses Water Dog (Bo), a German Shepherd (Bolt), a Beagle (Snoopy), a Colie (Lassie), a Jack Russell Terrier (Eddie), a Scottish Terrier (Barney), and a White Wire Fox Terrier (Snowy).

I was a little surprised by the order of the top twenty.  I always think Snoopy will be the most famous, but he was down at number seven.  I’m sure Marley and Scooby Doo benefit from having their names in the title of their movie, book, or TV series.

Surprisingly, five of the top twenty dogs are real life dogs, as fictional dogs tend to be more famous than their real world counterparts.  I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that most of these dogs have had their own books, movies, or extended press coverage.

I compiled this list by searching for the dog names listed on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online.
