I have a neighbor who takes care of foster dogs and puppies. She had a chihuahua that had puppies. All of the puppies had a pleasant birth except for one, which was born “dead” and after her attempt to resuscitate it, the puppy revived and is now doing well.
Is this puppy likely to have health problems in the future because of this instance?
my 3. 5 yr. old chihuahua has recently started pooping in the house. He was fully housebroken before (ok, he had an OCCASIONAL accident 2 or 3 times a year, always poop) but now it’s almost everyday, sometimes when we are at home in the next room over. The poop picks right off the carpet without leaving a stain or anything, but to us, it’s not the poop itself that is bothering us but his reasoning for doing it. He knows how to communicate to us that he needs to go outside and often does. Does anyone know why my dog would all of the sudden be behaving like this? I just had him at the vet 8 wks. ago for his shots and he received a clean bill of health. He is happy and lively. I just don’t know why he would be behaving like this?
The puppy was a Chihuahua X Shih Tzu Hybrids. She inherited mostly everything including Chihuahua’s temperament except the ear is Shih Tzu’s. She is now doing crate training; so I had 2 let it out at home for some time in the day. But when I let her out, she keeps running like a wild horse or sniffing the floor, but I can’t get her attention to me. She was so busy that sometimes even I hold a treat in my hand, she just simply don’t care when I call her name (Not Always). Another problem with her is she biting the leash that I hooked 2 the collar and sometimes trying 2 take off her collar by shaking or scratching. She looks like she dislike the leash and the collar but she still need 2 put it on! I heard of others dog walk their master, but in my case, she is biting and pulling the lead backwards from the direction I am facing, trying 2 stop me from going. I also tried 2 train him 2 sit, but after a few times, she sat down without my commend and waiting for me 2 give her treat (dry food).
I am getting a Chihuahua, not a teacup (gosh. . . so easy to step on!) and I was wondering if they had special illnesses or diseases that other dog breeds don’t have? If so, what are they?
Yes I know teacup isn’t a dog breed but still there are teacup-sized chis so you really can’t say they don’t exist; obviously I was referring to the size, not the breed name.
I forgot to say; I am not getting like an 8-week-old puppy! The chi choices are very limited in my area. I am getting a dog about 3 months old, or older, so pottytraining isn’t a problem. Thank you anyway for listing that, but I need health information about mature dogs.
Yes, I have done research on this breed. I interviewed all my friends who had chis and I have visited the library countless times, getting a book about Chis every time, and I am now quite educated, but I still need to know a little more before I get my dream pup. It’s all in the research.

I think old chihuahua asthma tiype few slices of the problem may have manfully my 1 1 / 2 years. He coughs sometimes, as if hes on slightly kotzen you. Can someone identify him as some of you health problem?
First of all, a Chweenie is a mixture of a dachshund and a chihuahua. I want mine to live healthy, so I want to know some of the most common health problems a Chweenie can get. Just so you know, mine is about 2 or 3 years old and only has 1 eye.
we have a 5 year old chihuahua, very good health, we clean her teeth about one a month with tooth paste and dental tools. She has been having horrid breath lately and we just noticed that her bottom front teeth are loose and about to fall out! We are going to schedule a vet apt. on monday, has anyone heard of this before? We assume it is a gum infection, just not sure why since we take such pride in her teeth. Oh and, we only feed her dry, high quality dog food as well.
