Training a Chihuahua puppy?????//?
We just got a new chihuahua puppy he is about 9 wks old. anyways I have started training him Here is what i have been doing.
Crate training (using the crate w/ the divider) That’s were he sleeps and is at when i cant watch him or when we are gone.
I take him out in the morning immediately after taking him out of his crate then again about 30 min after eating and ever 2 or 3 hours after that and if he starts whining in is crate i take him out if he start sniffing like he is going to go i take him out he has used the bathroom outside several times but he has also used it in his crate before i wake up and also a few times in the house (in the same are lucky its on hard wood) I expect him to have some accidents but im Little concerned about him going in his crate i take him out early this morning it was around 6;30 so im not sure why he is doing that.
Also here are some other training things i have been doing.
When i take him outside I always Say OUTSIDE and then when i bring him in I say INSIDE
Then when i catch him chewing on things he shouldnt be like hands or other objects i say NO and he seems to respond also i know he needs serious socialization because of his breed so i have been letting all of my daughters friends pet and play with him and all adults as well i plan on interacting him with some other neighbors dogs as well ( he loves to play with our dog we have now but she really doesn’t want to be bothered by him)
Is there anything else i should be doing? and am i doing everything correctly? Also what do i do about him whining in his crate after i have already let him go potty? Right now i have been just ignoring him. should i be doing something else?
he is usually out of his crate most of the day unless i have to go somewhere and cant take him or we are eating dinner. but other then that he is out and playing.

no your doing everything alright, dont be overly cautious as it can create fears and bad ideas.

Make sure you praise when he goes outside & discipline when has an accident.
Soiling the crate is normal at first & so is whining.
When he whines you should ignore him, until it is time for him to go out again.
I only keep my pups in a crate while I am sleeping or gone & they can’t go.
If you are home & doing nothing, you should be spending time bonding, training, & playing with him.
Crates are a handy tool when potty training, but you can misuse a crate too. Don’t let your puppy spend TOO much time in the crate or he will be sad & lonely.
Also he is still very young, potty training takes time but if you are consistent, you will see him get better & better as he matures.

just make sure you dont give him food or water too late at night other wise he will be needing a wee in the night!
Hes only 9 weeks old so hasnt got a mature enough bladder to hold it for eight hours over night! just keep on plugging and he will learn within a few weeks! What your doing sounds great, its nice to see someone who puts in the time and effort and love he deserves,
Also just make sure he doesnt spend too much time locked in the crate, just leave the door open so when hes tired he can go there of his own accord!
Hope he turns into a great little companion for you xx
